COURSE SELECTION

All students are currently engaged in the course selection process. Teachers have made their recommendations for core academic classes. Students are now able to review those recommendations and choose electives.

Graduation Requirements

All students are required to complete the following in order to graduate from Dracut High School.

  • Accumulate a minimum of 22 credits

  • 4.5 credits of English (Four full year English courses and an English elective)

  • 4 credits in Social Studies

  • 3 credits in Math

  • 3 credits in Science

  • 1 credit in World Language

  • 1 credit in Wellness

  • 1 credit in Unified Arts

  • Pass the ELA, Math and Science portions of the MCAS


Course Appeals
If in reviewing the teacher recommendations, a student feels as though they want to pursue a higher level course than the recommendation, they may complete a Course Appeal Form.

Physical Education Requirement
In accordance with M.G.L. c. 71 § 3, all Dracut High School students must enroll in physical education in each of their four years of high school. Students will be required to enroll in a PE class each year unless they submit the google form indicating that they will fulfill this requirement through enrollment in interscholastic sports, Marching Band, or Show Choir.

AP Courses
DHS currently offers 14 AP courses. Not all courses may be offered every year depending on enrollment. All students who enroll in an AP course are expected to take the AP exam in May. The cost of the AP in 2023 was $96 ($15 if a student qualifies for free/reduced lunch).

Dual Enrollment Courses
DHS has been working to expand our dual enrollment offerings over the past few years. There are options through both Middlesex Community College (MCC) and UMass Lowell (UML).

  • The following courses are taught by DHS faculty and students have the option to enroll in dual enrollment credit through MCC. The cost for the dual enrollment credit for Fall is $126/credit. Classroom courses are 3 credits ($378) and lab based courses are 4 credits ($504).

  • The following courses are scheduled to be offered by UMass Lowell. These courses will be offered through a combination of Zoom instruction from a UML professor and in person interaction with the professor and the DHS faculty member supporting the class. These courses are available at no cost. Each class is worth 3 UML credits.

School to Work (Seniors only)
Seniors who hold a job and work 7 or more hours a week may apply for School to Work in lieu of a G period elective.
